Mrs Jones
My name is Mrs Jones (the children call me Jones the forest!!)
I deliver outdoor education as part of our forest school programme. I trained as a forest school leader in 2011 and qualified as a coastal school leader in 2015.
Getting the children outdoors and learning in this environment is my passion and it is clearly evident that the children enjoy this real life hands on learning. This has been a great passion of mine which has enhanced all pupils lives in George street school by giving them experiences they may never have the opportunity to enjoy. This has now been embedded into our school curriculum where the children attend coastal school lessons at least once a year sometimes twice!
I love to see their faces when they achieve what they think is the impossible and when they see the magic of our environment come to life….literally!
I have worked at George Street since 2005, in this time I have seen many children progress through the school, and become responsible, respectful young people who value their environment.
Working closely with all members of staff and being a Cover Supervisor within the school allows me to deliver such a rich opportunity to all pupils at George Street School. I was also successful in securing the funding and building of our outdoor classroom, which enables our children to work outdoors whatever the weather!
I am heavily involved in the schools Pupil Voice team – “Eco Warriors” who are passionate like myself to make a change of the world we live in.
I am the transport coordinator at George Street and hold a full Torfaen MIDAS licence, which allows me to transport children to various events and school trips. I am proud to be involved in such activities that showcase our amazing children and we constantly receive feedback as to how well behaved they are outside the school environment.
As the children will tell you, I LOVE wildlife and in particular hedgehogs. I am always stressing the importance of looking after our wildlife with the children as you may well hear when they come home after a session. My motto is
“Let’s get them outside!”
