Curriculum Statement

 At George Street Primary School, our curriculum is designed around the needs, interests and aspirations of our children and community. We work closely with pupils, families, staff, governors and community partners to ensure that what we teach is meaningful, relevant and prepares children for their future.

We believe that education is a powerful force for good. Our curriculum aims to reduce disadvantage, widen opportunities, inspire ambition and help every child realise their potential. Strong partnerships with families and the wider community play an important role in achieving this vision.

Our curriculum is not simply about what children learn, but also how they learn. We believe that high-quality teaching and engaging learning experiences are equally important. As a school, we continually reflect on, research and refine our practice to ensure that our teaching helps children become confident, capable and enthusiastic learners.

Every child is unique. We therefore provide a range of learning experiences that respond to children's individual strengths, interests and needs. These include focused teaching, independent learning, collaborative work, creative opportunities and purposeful play. Through these varied experiences, children develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions they need to thrive both now and in the future.

While pupil voice plays an important role in shaping learning, we also ensure that our curriculum is carefully planned and progressive. Staff work together to identify the essential knowledge, skills and experiences that children should encounter throughout their time at George Street. This helps us provide a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.

We believe that learning begins with knowing each child well. Through observation, discussion, assessment and careful reflection on children's work, we develop a deep understanding of their progress, needs and next steps. This enables us to nurture, challenge and support every child as an individual.
