Mr Keir

Hi, my name is Mr Keir and I am the class teacher of Dosbarth Bluebell in Reception.

I originally joined George Street as a Newly Qualified Teacher teaching Year 2 after successfully completing my PGCE at University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Swansea. I have since enjoyed teaching Year 1 at George Street before moving into the Early Years. During my training year I was incredibly fortunate to experience teaching across both Primary phases, from Nursery all the way to upper Key Stage 2. 

I am a huge believer that children are the best leaders of their learning, and it is my job as class teacher to support the development of their interests, passions and fascinations. In my classroom children do this through play, and I love the opportunities play allows for independent problem solving, collaboration, and creative thinking. The children at George Street are amazing at driving their own learning, whether it’s creating their own authentic learning experiences or challenging themselves as they interact with the environment. I get so excited when I see the children learning new skills or discovering solutions to problems through their own play and hard work. This is the philosophy that drives our class and the children are very much front and centre in dictating where their learning goes next. As teacher I facilitate their choices and ideas the best I can to make sure they truly gain authentic experiences during their time in school.

In addition to my role as class teacher, I am the Curriculum Lead for Assessment and Progression. In this role I work with colleagues across the whole school to develop approaches to Assessment that allow children to fulfil their potential in a way that is fully embedded in the way we teach and children learn. This position allows me opportunities to develop research projects that drive our school’s approach to curriculum design as we move into the second year of Curriculum for Wales. 

I am a keen player of many sports and so therefore I love to see my pupils being active as they learn. Nurturing creativity is also very important to me, as in my spare time I love to read, write stories, and play music on my guitar - although my neighbours may not love it quite as much as me!

Working closely with parents and families is essential to ensure the children achieve their absolute potential, and so my door is always open.
