School Council

“Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously”
– Article 12 United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child.

The School Council is over seen by Mrs. Fisher however the council is a totally pupil lead organisation.

The council is made up of one representative from each class in years 2,3,4,5 and 6, plus head and deputy head boy and girl. Each class is asked to vote for their representatives with prospective councilors asked to give a speech to their peers explaining why they want to be on the council and how they would represent the views of their classmates.

Once elected the council holds an internal election for the roles of:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

The aim of the council is to provide all George Street pupils a meaningful platform in order to have their voices heard, no matter their age, gender, race or religion. The council meets once a month to discuss upcoming events, ideas for fundraising and feedback any issues that their peers have brought to them.

Some of the events the school council have already been involved in include, fundraising days for Children in Need and Red Nose Day. As recognition of their hard work, passion and commitment to School Council we are very much looking forward to our debating workshop and tour at The Houses of Parliament in Westminster in the coming weeks.
